Our History

Housing Opportunities of Fort Worth, Inc. (HOFW) is the oldest HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency in Tarrant County. Founded in 1988, HOFW is a private 501(c)(3) organization delivering homebuyer education, default/delinquency counseling, and reverse equity mortgage counseling on an individual basis. All services are free of charge and can be given in Spanish, as well as English. Its counselors have over 67 years of counseling experience.

HOFW has received funding from HUD, major foundations, and the mortgage lending industry. In 2018, HOFW’s counselors worked with over 500 households, helping area families access and maintain affordable homeownership. Habitat for Humanity, the City of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Housing Authority, AARP, and numerous other organizations have benefitted from HOFW’s counseling and education programs.
